About the Muscogee (Creek) Nation

Mvskoke Etvlwv — A Sovereign Nation, A Jenks Neighbor

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation — known in the Mvskoke language as Mvskoke Etvlwv — is one of the Five Civilized Tribes and a federally recognized sovereign tribal nation with a reservation that includes the land on which Jenks stands. The Nation's headquarters is in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and its citizens and institutions are a foundational part of the communities along the Arkansas River.

In Jenks specifically, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation is among the most significant institutional presences in the city. Through Onefire Holding Company, the Nation owns and operates Riverwalk Crossing — purchasing the property at a foreclosure auction in April 2012 for $11.5 million and investing steadily in its revival and growth. The Nation also co-signed the landmark memorandum of understanding with the cities of Tulsa and Jenks for the Arkansas River low-water dam project, pledging $8.192 million toward what Jenks Mayor Cory Box called "the biggest project in our city's history."

The Nation's commitment to Jenks is not merely economic. When a new playground was built at the Riverwalk, the design was deliberately infused with Muscogee cultural elements — the Arkansas River, acorns, a canoe, and the beaver, a clan animal — honoring the heritage of the people whose homeland this has always been.

"The Muscogee (Creek) Nation is always willing to sit down and work with our partners in the cities of Tulsa and Jenks to advance development, growth, and prosperity on our reservation."
